Luke S. Zimmerman, Esq., LL.M. is the founding principal of the Law Office of Luke S. Zimmerman APC, where he advises entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and technology-driven businesses on intellectual property, business formation, and regulatory compliance. His practice focuses on emerging industries, including medical cannabis and innovative technology ventures, with particular expertise in AI, intellectual property strategy, and brand protection.
Luke earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Oregon at Eugene and his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California, where he was a member of the Pro Bono Honors Society. He went on to earn a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Amsterdam, with a thesis examining the impact of bilateral trade agreements on harmonizing intellectual property standards under the WTO’s TRIPS Agreement. He subsequently earned a second LL.M. through the ITCILO/WIPO Academy in partnership with the University of Turin, focusing on international intellectual property law; his thesis was cited in a United Nations trade report.

Drawing on his international experience and observations of the evolving cannabis and technology sectors, Luke founded his law office to help entrepreneurs, creators, and emerging technology companies protect their intellectual property while navigating complex regulatory landscapes. The firm develops comprehensive strategies to safeguard and strengthen clients’ IP portfolios, including proactive risk assessment, brand protection planning, and long-term enforcement strategies tailored to each client’s industry and growth goals.
The firm emphasizes forward-looking approaches at the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property, helping clients manage the legal implications of emerging technologies and digital innovation. Luke also provides guidance on domestic and international trademark registration, copyright protection, trade secrets, and business formation. Activism and volunteering are central to Luke’s commitments. In 2014, he volunteered with the Clemency Project, assisting a federal inmate in obtaining a commutation of a life sentence. Recognized by the California Department of Food and Agriculture as an expert in his field, he contributed to the development of the California Appellations Program. Luke has also lectured extensively on intellectual property rights, both in the United States and internationally. He is a lifelong member of the National Cannabis Bar Association (NCBA) and NORML, reflecting his enduring engagement with advocacy and reform.
